Cantante y comediante estadounidense. Se inició como músico durante sus años universitarios en Yale y en 1928 formó la banda de música bailable los Yale Collegians (más tarde, Los Connecticut Yankees). Como director y cantante de su propia orquesta, utilizó su característico megáfono para amplificar su suave y elegante voz. Debutó en el cine con El amante vagabundo (1929) y posteriormente se transformó en actor de comedias ligeras y protagonizó papeles de carácter. En radio condujo The Rudy Vallee Show (1929–43), el primer programa de variedades de una cadena importante y descubrió nuevos talentos como Alice Faye y Edgar Bergen.
